The Tangerine Technique what it does, Why use it and when to use it.
The purpose of the tangerine technique is to help you keep focused concentration while you're reading. When other stuff is happening around you or you have dyslexia, your focus and reading focus is likely to wander. People who keep the focused on their reading have a fixed point of awareness at the top back part of the head.
When we use the Tangerine Techniques we aid our focus and concentration for reading. For some people this may not make a significant difference because they have been doing it naturally, whenever they needed to focus. For them it would not have a significant feeling. It is still worth practicing for the time when you can be distracted. Like the workplace with phones ringing, in a crowded library or if you happen to find yourself needing to read in unusual or even stressful occasions with a crisis happening.
So to get the feel of the tangerine just touch the top back part of your head. That will give you a sensation you can focus on. Refocus on the top back part of the head when you lose your concentration.
The tangerine technique can and should be used for all reading (and even writing) where you want to keep your focus on the written word. You might even try it in other areas like playing sports, listening to class lectures and even when you find yourself daydreaming when you would like more focused attention to the task.
The tangerine technique is easy to use, and you can take a set and forget approach. By starting out with your focus on your reading the mind can stay with your reading unless you experience major distractions in that case just reapply. In the beginning 'actually' touch the top back part of the head. Later you'll just think of it and you've got it. Even so, you'll notice me touching the top back part of my head occasionally. : )
It isn't a feeling that is important so as much as an awareness. So visualisation, just knowing and even just the left over feeling that you have after touching your head there will give you that awareness.
Some people might experience tingling, buzzing or other sensations that say that more activity is taking place. That can be a cool experience however, remember the purpose of the Tangerine Technique (focused concentration, on the reading you're about to undertake) is the real aim of using the tangerine technique.
